Working From Home Desk

A bespoke Computer Desk for home working designed to fit the client's requirements. Inspired by Mid Century Modern design the desk features a pair of cantilever end frames. Subtle handcrafted elements and careful selection of hardwood make this piece come alive.

The end frames feature tapered legs that are raked outward from top to bottom. The rake angle is gentle at the back leg with a more pronounced angle at the front. A round dowel stretcher between the legs completes each frame. The dowels joint to the legs with wedged tenons. Handplaned facets on the dowels add texture to the stretchers.

The desk top features straight grained Wych elm that has some dark streaks and green tones. The detachable shelf has a drawer box to the righthand side featuring a burr sycamore front. The sycamore has a wild grain and lighter colour. The elm is straighter grained with richer tones. Used together these two wood species provide a pleasing and complimentary contrast.

The offset drawer box breaks the symmetry of the piece and adds to the mid century vibe. The circular drawer pull mimics the knot hole in the modesty stretcher below the desk. This adds to the relaxed feel of the piece.
